NYC, a freezing Saturday night in Oct .2011,The Wella Trends event held at The Tunnel was an amazing gathering of some of the country’s most talented hair dressers. The highlight of the night, a futuristic presentation given by Oribe, with model Ronie Brown . Together they gave a rundown of decades, from the 1930’s silvery finger waves guided by a purple lazor light show in every curl, to a super straight 90’s bright yellow blonde Linda Evangelista inspired Beatles haircut. Next up was a 60’s exaggerated pink Cat Woman look, and the show stopper, the main event when the reinvented 80’s classic look of Grace Jones in a perfect shade of modern neon blue, complete with cigarette and lots of attitude! The colorist who made it all happen? None other than our very own Color Director Anthony Palermo. ” Oribe has me hypnotized ” says Palermo, “I see the color he is thinking and I bring it to life.” It is another amazing colaboration between two true artists!

ALS: What would you say is the signature hair cut that you are known for at The ALS?
M: I’ve been known for a clean but sexy long layered haircut, I prefer a soft razored look.
ALS: When did you start hair dressing?
M: At the age of 19. I started at a salon called Bumble & Bumble.
ALS: What is your favorite hair color?
M: I adore a highlighted look, a rich brown into a mixture of multicolored honey’s ,caramel’s and soft blondes.
ALS: What is your trick for a bad hair day?
M: Don’t try to fight it! I love a a messy braid, a chic scarf, or a great hat. You can’t go wrong with that.
ALS: Where besides NYC would you like to live?
M: Florence Italy. It is full of amazing art, beautiful people and great wine!
ALS: Who is your favorite fashionista?
M: Marilyn Monroe did everything better than anyone else. She is timeless. Every woman wants to feel her magic still to this day. She is an amazing muse, and still inspires the element of glamour!
ALS: What do you think is the most important part of a woman’s look?
M: Hair & make-up!! If you get that right , the rest is easy. But the most important is lipstick. I don’t leave the house without my MAC Ruby Woo!!!
ALS: Do you see big changes in the beauty industry?
M: I was interviewed by New Beauty Magazine (aug 2011) about preserving hair and keeping it young looking. The beauty industry is obsessed with youth. For example, staying away from gels, and harsh hairspray’s, being more aware of tepurture controls on hot tools and moisturizing is always the key. Bottling a healthy 19 year old girl’s hair…This is what the beauty industy is trying to achieve for women of all ages!
ALS: Top 3 artist on your i pod?
M: At the moment I’m hooked on Adelle, but I still listen to Prince and the one and only Ms. Billie Holiday.
ALS: What is your favorite AnthonyLeonard retail product?
M: I don’t let my clients leave the salon without buying SACHAJUAN Leave In Conditioner spray, its light, its oil free, it really makes styling effortless and most important it is the first step in healthy shiny beautiful looking hair, I absolutely love it!
