She is an “It” girl, a unique beauty that every major photographer uses as their muse. If you don’t know her, then you don’t know enough about fashion!!!! A supermodel made famous for her blazing red hair and porcelain doll skin, who knew Karen Elson has pipes? Her sultry voice and retro-folky sound is as beautiful as a cover of Italian Vogue. It is so hard to believe that I was about 13 when I was possessed by the all mighty powers of Madonna. Girls in Junior High’s across the world not only walked around singing Like A Virgin in front of their parents without any fear. They cut their t-shirts across the belly, hocked up their skirts, tied rags in their hair, triple pierced ears, and wore what the kids call now “silly bracelets.” I mean, hundreds at a time, in every color! Who knew 3o something years later there would be an offspring creating a clothing line named appropriately “Material Girl.” What does she know about the 80’s, you ask? While the rest of us have to google the pop stars’ images, all she has to do is ransack her mom’s closet!

You can not walk down a city block without spotting one of her pieces. Helen Ficalora is an amazing jewelry designer with a little something extra. It’s that perfect eye-catcher that makes people stop and recognize! With stores in NYC, Beverly Hills, Palm Beach, Chicago, and her newest store in Bridgehampton, I must say she has come along way since selling little charms from a 1950’s beachfront motel in Montauk! Helen is a personal friend, and I believe she has started a phenomenon that will last for generations to come. She stays true to herself, always has a smile on her face, and is totally unaffected by what she has created. What’s next? Perhaps an international market—one charming little store at a time!
