Breakthrough Fashion Designer Haleh Nematzadeh, with whom Anthony Leonard Salon has collaborated on her “Some Kind of Bliss” fashion show, went from black to blonde with the help of Anthony Palermo, and wrote about it in her blog entry entitled, “From Black To Blonde, My Platinum Experience.”  Her personal account of the extreme hair changing experience, as well as many other interesting fashion/music/style/beauty-related blog entries make her website almost like a fun-house for anyone seeking eye candy as well as killer fashion ideas.  Haleh’s innovative style and talent for visual stimuli has made her a go-to person for celebrities like pop star Kesha, Gwen Stefani, Amber Rose, and Kelly Osbourne. A Little Piece of Africa in Times Square

Anthony Palermo and Leonard Zagami have seen the new musical on Broadway, FELA! and they highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys an interesting storyline with uplifting Afrobeat rhythmic music to boot.  They caught the incredible March 9th performance of Emmy Award Winner Kevin Mambo as Fela Kuti, the legendary Nigerian musician, and Tony Award Winner Lillias White as Fela’s mother.  The overall strength of the story was complemented by the cast’s talented singers and energetic dancers.  Tickets are as low as $35 on Tuesday through Thursday and on Sunday evening. To get special rates on tickets, visit BroadwayOffers.com and use code FEDM223, or call 212.947.8844 and mention code FEDM223.

Rockstar Rocks New ‘Do

Color by Anthony Palermo

Julian Casablancas, whose music you may have heard during your last appointment at Anthony Leonard Salon, (or whom you may have seen in Anthony Palermo’s chair) may be known by some as lead singer/songwriter of rock band The Strokes, but as any artist, he’s much more than that.  In fact, Julian recently released a solo album entitled Phrazes for the Young, on which he includes profoundly insightful “Phrazes” in the songs, and on the CD jacket as well.  Aside from being an amazing songwriter, Julian is good at keeping a straight face while performing with Andy Samberg during parody videos like “Boombox,” on last week’s Saturday Night Live.  If you missed it, check it out below—Just remember, the boombox is not a toy!

Julian will be headlining at Irving Plaza (aka The Fillmore East) next Wednesday, March 24th.  For more tour information visit his website: http://www.juliancasablancas.com/

“What’s Hot Spot?”

I’ve decided to stop assuming that everyone already knows about HopStop.com because any time I mention it at Anthony Leonard Salon, I get “What’s Hot Spot dot com??”  I guess I couldn’t believe that not everyone had known about it because I rely on it all the time to get around The City.  This is the best tool to figure out which train or bus you need to take in order to get where you’re going, and it includes the five boroughs, New Jersey, Boston, Providence, Hartford, Philadelphia, Delaware, Baltimore, DC, San Francisco, London, and Paris.  It’s a life-saver when you’re on vacation especially, and for those of you who just moved and are getting acclimated, you and this site are meant to be!  Check it: www.hopstop.com

Anthony & Leonard’s Best/Worst Dressed: Oscars 2010

Judging from the opinions expressed by clients and stylists at Anthony Leonard Salon, many agree that this year’s Red Carpet at the Oscars was nothing spectacular.  Many of the stars made beautiful gowns seem unattractive simply because they were ill-fitted.  Were the top seamstresses on vacation last month, or were the mirrors distorting body images?  Particularly, those mentioned from this category were Sarah Jessica Parker, Vera Farmiga, Miley Cyrus, among others.  Despite the negativity, and without further ado, here we present Anthony and Leonard’s Best and Worst Dressed for the 2010 Oscars:

Anthony’s Best Dressed Pick:

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Haute Couture

Anthony:  A different actress may not have been able to pull off this gown, but Zoe Saldana was iconic Hollywood glamour in this dress.  The purple hues complemented her skin tone, and Zoe’s height kept the gown looking fierce and perfectly tailored to her body.

Anthony’s Choice for Worst Dressed:

Sigourney Weaver in Lanvin

Sigourney Weaver in Lanvin

Anthony:  For a woman of her height, age, and status, this dress was a poor choice.  The black sash and overall fit of the dress was not flattering for a 6-foot woman, not to mention the hairstyle!

Leonard’s Best Dressed Pick:

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

Leonard: My pick for best-dressed goes to Sandra Bullock because she really did look like a movie star.  Her sparkling cap sleeve made her shine even more as she awaited her category.

Leonard’s Worst Dressed Pick: Undeclared

Leonard: I can’t decide!  I might have picked Tina Fey, but I like her a lot so I’ll avoid the negative remarks on this one!
