Chinese New Year: Dive In!

Year of the Tiger

Ok, so it’s the Year of the Tiger according to Chinese New Year calendar, and the forecast is a dramatic one.  Coincidentally, it begins on February 14th–just in time to pull those tiger moves in the bedroom!  I’m just kidding, especially coming from someone who is single (but I had to do it).  Regardless of whether you are single, attached, or married, there is something cool to consider about the year of the tiger beginning on Valentine’s Day.  The characteristics of a tiger are actually, in some cases, the opposite of those of the quintessential Valentine’s Day holiday.  In tiger eyes, there is no room for being “gushy”and vulnerable (or depressed and/or disappointed for that matter).  For the king of the jungle, it’s about being strong, passionate, and charming—-without losing your reserved coolness…The “animal of the

year” denotes power and intensity, but still symbolizes earth, and as I willingly transfer from my tired and cold winter mentality into my spring and summer outlook, I’m hoping to reflect those tiger-like qualities in my dress as a reminder to stay focused, show passion, and still be daring.

Flipping through the March 2010 Collector’s Edition of Harper’s Bazaar, it seems like the fashion designers felt the year of the tiger coming—especially in the Accessories Special.  There is a tribal-style feature with animal print sandals and braided thongs, exotic-colored silk dresses, and organic stones.  Then they have a lot of camel colors and neutral earthy tones for sandals and handbags, reminiscent of the Sahara.  As fashion week starts, I look forward to seeing some more inspiring ideas.  I’m already loving the looks for this coming Spring, and personally can’t wait until the weather is warm enough to dump those bulky sweaters and scuffed-up boots into storage!  Who’s with me?
